City loop Vaduz

This stage leads from the Walser settlement of Triesenberg to Liechtenstein’s capital, Vaduz.

From the centre of Triesenberg the route first leads us to an impressive boulder deposited here during the last Ice Age before continuing along a steadily ascending path to Profatscheng, a listed smallholding. After stopping to admire the fantastic views of the Rhine Valley, we then head downhill along a steep section through the forest to the ruins of Schalun Castle. These ruins are situated on a rocky outcrop about 400 vertical metres above the centre of Vaduz. As soon as the path becomes flatter, the Quadretschaweg trail opens up to reveal fine views of Vaduz Castle.

From Vaduz Castle the narrow and steep Schlossweg trail winds its way down to the town of Vaduz, the capital of Liechtenstein. In the traffic-free town centre, known as the Städtle, the Liechtenstein Trail leads us along the Museum Mile featuring the Liechtenstein Museum of Fine Arts, the Hilti Art Foundation, the Postal Museum, the Treasure Chamber and the National Museum all the way to the government district of Vaduz. Take the opportunity to admire the eye-catching parliament building designed by the German architect Hansjörg Göritz and the adjoining government building before continuing on less well-known paths from St. Florin’s Cathedral to the old bridge over the Rhine, then along the river and past the football stadium back into the centre of Vaduz.
