Liechtenstein Trail: stage Ruggell with former Mayor Maria Kaiser-Eberle

Liechtenstein has many unique features, so does Ruggell. Although we are the northernmost community, we are known as the sun capital of Liechtenstein, and with us the "Dorf" (village) becomes the "Darf" and the "Morga" (morning) becomes the "Marga".

In this sense: Dear Liechtenstein hikers, welcome to the sunniest "Darf" of Liechtenstein, welcome to Ruggell!

From Gamprin, the Liechtenstein Trail leads through the Kratzerawald forest directly to Ruggell. We are not only the sunniest, but also the most bicycle-crazy community in Liechtenstein. Rumour has it that there are more bicycles than inhabitants in Ruggell. This is quite possible, as the flat topography invites you to take a leisurely bike ride with the whole family.

Past the listed Küefer-Martis-Huus from the 18th century, the culture house of our community, you reach Ruggeller reed in a few steps.

With around 90 hectares, it is the largest nature reserve in Liechtenstein and a refuge for rare animals and plants. Fauna and especially flora offer nature-fans a wonderful experience. Cycling, skating, hiking, walking, and all this in a sunny and intact natural environment.

After a long working day, the wide open Ruggeller reed becomes an oasis, a place of retreat and strength, where you can let your thoughts run free. At the end of May, beginning of June, the iris blooms. The reed is then covered with a blue-violet carpet and transforms into a mystical, beautiful place. For me, every year, this is one of the spring highlights.

Ruggell is a popular recreation area, especially for families. Since 2018, our community also carries the UNICEF label "Child-friendly community".

We don`t take it for granted, to live and work in a place where others seek rest and relaxation. We have to take care of this area, also for future generations.
