Schalun Castle (Wildschloss)
Schalun is a ruin, situated on an exposed rock crib between Schaan and Vaduz, also called "Wildschloss".
The Schalun Castle is acessible from Vaduz in a steadily ascending carriage way in the forest. Along the way you'll be able to pass the new viewing platform. But at the ruin itself you'll also enjoy a great view over the Rhine Valley.
The ruins of Schalun Castle are found on three artificial niveaus, separated from each other. The access to the castle was secured through a pointed ditch via the northern plateau. Impressive remains of the wall from the center of the castle and the mountain fried are preserved. The western plateau is separated through a throat ditch from the rest of the castle site. The rare finds enable a date of the first buildings in the 12th century. Modifications and extensions in the 13th century were made to secure the complex strategically. In the 14th centure the castle has been fully cleared and after that, destroyed by a fire.
