New cinema, old glamour

For decades, the Old Cinema in the centre of Vaduz was a cultural institution. Hollywood films brought glamour to the capital and the kiosk, which was open daily, was the first port of call among locals for exciting regulars' table conversations. After the cinema closed, various parties campaigned for its reactivation. Now the time has come, the cinema shines in new old splendour

Altes Kino

Princely programme

The Old Cinema will be largely used to offer guests a cinematic insight into our country under the label Fürstenkino. The centrepiece is a 20-minute film showing the history of the castle and residence of the princely family. The filming took the camera team across the old drawbridge and the forecourt, through the representative reception rooms and into the cellar, which houses part of the princely art collection.

The scenes for the film have been shot, the off-voices have been spoken and the final adjustments have been made. Get an exclusive look at the various scenes in our picture gallery.

However, the film also gives viewers an insight into the country of Liechtenstein, its exciting history and interesting sights. This princely experience truly crowns the visit to Vaduz.

Old cinema charm meets modern technology

Before the Old Cinema reopened its doors, extensive conversion work and renovations took place. There was planning, discussion, tearing out, building in, hammering, screwing, gluing, painting, testing and decorating.

A new heating and air conditioning system was installed, curtains and carpets renewed, walls painted, chairs and wall coverings cleaned and the sanitary facilities overhauled. The highlight, however, is the new image and sound technology. With the Onyx 2k Cinema LED Wall from Samsung, the future of cinema technology is becoming a reality in Vaduz. After Zurich and Munich, this is only the third location in Europe. Cinema thus becomes an experience.

Fürstenkino Umbau

A cinema for every occasion

The princely film programme is complemented by screenings of children's films and documentaries. In addition, the rooms can be used or rented for lectures or cultural events. There is great joy about the reactivation of the tradition-rich house. "I am sure that many people who enter the cinema after its reopening will leave with many fond memories," says the former mayor of Vaduz, Ewald Ospelt.
